Concept Float – Perfume & Memories

During a course on Color and Semantics, I was tasked with designing a bottle inspired by a perfume’s scent. The smell immediately transported me back to memories from my youth and childhood, sparking the concept of Float, a perfume bottle that serves as a memory capsule.

I wanted to capture the feeling of memories — how they can be vivid yet elusive, sometimes appearing clearly and other times slipping away like clouds. This idea manifested in a bottle design with a transparent midsection containing different colored liquids. Each color symbolized a different memory, offering a visual representation of the emotions and moments associated with the scent.

The form of the bottle was simple yet elegant, with a reflective exterior that created a mirror-like appearance. This reflection not only enhanced the beauty of the design but also symbolized the contradiction between memory and reality. The mirrored surface represented the present, while the colors inside represented the past, forming a poetic contrast between what is remembered and what is reflected back to us now.

To translate the idea of memories being hard to grasp and fleeting, I introduced a magnetic conduction system that made the bottle float. This floating effect was a direct metaphor for how memories can drift away when we try to hold onto them.

Float was more than just a perfume bottle—it was a visual and sensory exploration of how scent, memory, and design can intertwine to tell a deeper story.
