Instore Kids Corner
During my seven-month role as a Junior Designer at IKC (Instore Kids Corners), I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that allowed me to stretch my design skills across different mediums. It was an exciting experience that involved juggling multiple responsibilities, often blending creativity with technical problem-solving.
I worked closely with the digital team to develop engaging software for the interactive kid screens used in supermarkets. This project was particularly fulfilling as I got to explore the intersection of play, technology, and design, focusing on creating an intuitive and joyful experience for children.
In addition to the digital work, I spent a lot of time supporting the sales team by designing playground layouts using 3D CAD software. These layouts were intended to help visualize custom play areas, showcasing how our products could fit into various environments. This required a lot of collaboration, as I translated customer needs into immersive 3D concepts.
A large part of my work involved designing vibrant 2D wall illustrations, which were digitally printed on Forrex panels. These illustrations were used to transform walls into colorful, immersive spaces for children to explore. It was wonderful to create environments that could spark imagination through colors and storytelling elements.
I was also part of the product design team, contributing to the development of new product lines, which included wooden play elements, cushioned seating, and rubber objects for children. This involved concept creation, prototyping, and refining the designs to ensure they met safety and aesthetic requirements. It was incredibly rewarding to see my contributions take shape in physical products.
Many of the products I worked on were manufactured overseas, so I often had to coordinate with the factory team in China. This experience taught me the importance of clear communication and attention to detail, as aligning production requirements across different languages and time zones was a constant, yet rewarding challenge.
Overall, my time at IKC was an enriching blend of creativity, practicality, and collaboration. Each project taught me something new about how to balance playful design with functionality and how to bring an idea from concept to completion while keeping the needs of both clients and end-users in mind.
